If I must die,
— Refaata Alareer
you must live
to tell my story
to sell my things
to buy a piece of cloth
and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail)
so that a child, somewhere in Gaza
while looking heaven in the eye
awaiting his dad who left in a blaze—
and bid no one farewell
not even to his flesh
not even to himself—
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above
and thinks for a moment an angel is there
bringing back love
If I must die
let it bring hope
let it be a tale.

The Tale of Refaat Alareer
On this day 2 years ago, Israel murdered the beloved poet and writer.
Refaat was a Palestinian writer, poet, and professor from Gaza. Israel assassinated him, his brother, nephew, sister, and three of her children. In April 2024, Israel also killed his daughter, grandson, and son-in-law.
Refaat taught literature and creative writing at the Islamic University of Gaza, which was destroyed in Israel’s onslaught of Gaza. He promoted writing as a form of resistance to the Israeli occupation.
It has been confirmed by multiple reports that Refaat’s murder was a deliberate assassination by the Israeli occupation forces.
Rafaat on Bernie Sanders and so-called progressives
«What’s infuriating about Bernie Sanders’s position is that he has no political aspirations (he has nothing to lose) and he knows pretty well Israel is committed to genociding the Palestinian people.
— Refaata Alareer
That means he has always been a racist hateful and an anti-Palestinian bigot and duped everyone into thinking he is awesome and progressive.
Fuck Bernie sanders. When Israel kills 10k more, he will crawl out of his ancient Zionist arsehole and call for a ceasefire.»
