Advisory Board
Advisory Board Charter and Operating Framework
The Advisory Board serves as a strategic policy consultative body, and brings together expertise from aligned political parties and movements internationally alongside local specialists. Our mandate centers exclusively on policy strategy development, providing informed guidance to shape the party’s policy platform and long-term strategic direction.
Composition and International Perspective
The Advisory Board draws its strength from a deliberate blend of international and local expertise. Members represent aligned political parties and movements from across the globe, complemented by local experts who bring essential domestic context and understanding. This composition ensures our policy recommendations benefit from diverse experiences, successful practices from other democracies, and a comprehensive understanding of global trends affecting domestic policy challenges.
Policy Strategy Development
Analyze emerging policy challenges and opportunities, and draw from international best practices and local realities to recommend strategic approaches.
Cross-Border Learning
Facilitate knowledge exchange between aligned movements, and identify successful policy innovations that may be adapted to our domestic context.
Strategic Foresight
Provide long-term perspective on policy trends, and enable the party to anticipate and prepare for evolving challenges.
Policy Framework Refinement
Review and strengthen existing policy positions through international comparative analysis and expert consultation.
Meeting Structure and Process
Annual Convening
The Advisory Board meets once a year in advance of the national convention. This timing ensures policy recommendations can be properly presented, discussed, and considered for incorporation into the party’s official platform.
Emergency Sessions
In extraordinary circumstances requiring urgent policy guidance, emergency sessions may be convened at the discretion of the coordinating body.
Coordination with Central Committee
The Advisory Board works in partnership with a coordinating body from the Central Committee to ensure seamless integration between advisory recommendations and party governance structures.
Meeting Format and Accessibility
Recognising the international nature of our membership, meetings accommodate both physical and remote participation. This hybrid approach ensures full engagement regardless of geographic location while maintaining the collaborative atmosphere essential for productive policy dialogue.
Physical attendance is encouraged when possible to foster deeper discussion and relationship-building among members. Remote participation ensures no voice is excluded due to travel constraints or other practical considerations.
Deliverables and Impact
The Advisory Board’s primary output consists of comprehensive policy strategy recommendations presented annually to the general membership. These recommendations draw upon:
- Comparative analysis of successful policies from aligned international movements
- Assessment of emerging challenges and opportunities
- Strategic evaluation of current policy positions
- Forward-looking analysis of policy trends and implications
Commitment and Expectations
Members will help FOR in collaborative policy development and shared values while remaining open to diverse perspectives. The Advisory Board provides strategic guidance to inform party decision-making, linking international progressive thinking with local policy implementation.
