Solidarity with Hüseyin Dogru: The EU’s Sanctions Regime Has Become a Weapon Against Journalism and Humanity

The Peace and Justice Party (FOR) issues this statement in strongest protest against the Council of the European Union’s decision to sanction Hüseyin Dogru, co-founder of RED Stream and an independent journalist.

The EU has designated Mr. Dogru under its restrictive measures concerning “Russia’s destabilizing activities.” No criminal charge. No trial. No evidence made public. Instead, the Council offers only “privileged access” to secret documents – while forbidding him from speaking publicly to defend himself.

We ask directly:

Since when does the European Union certify who is a journalist and who is not? Since when does Brussels decide who can eat and who cannot?

Mr. Dogru – a German citizen, a journalist, a reporter, a father – not a propagandist. His wife is now targeted by the German state, despite facing no sanctions herself.
This is his emergency message:

*“!!! HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY CALL !!! As of yesterday, German authorities seized the bank accounts of my wife. She is not sanctioned and has committed no crime. As of now we have only ca. 104 euros left — with two newborn babies and one 7-year-old child!!!”*

This is not justice. This is collective punishment. This is the bureaucratic face of cruelty.

Is the European Union transforming into a Fourth Reich? When a German citizen is “de-personed” by decree, denied the means to feed his children, and his innocent wife stripped of her last euros – the comparison is no longer hyperbole. It is a warning.

FOR demands:

  1. Immediate unfreezing of Mrs. Dogru’s bank accounts.
  2. Full public disclosure of any evidence against Hüseyin Dogru.
  3. An end to the use of sanctions as a tool to silence journalists.

The EU claims to defend democracy. Starving a journalist’s family in Berlin is not democracy. It is a disgrace.

Solidarity with Hüseyin Dogru. Free speech is not a sanctionable offence.
