Bruk FNs Generalforsamling
Landsstyret i FOR støtter bruk av FNs «Uniting for Peace»-resolusjon 377(V) for å omgå veto- blokkering i Sikkerhetsrådet og stanse Israels krigføring i Gaza.
Resolusjon 377(V) fra 1950 gir Generalforsamlingen myndighet til å innkalle hastemøte og anbefale kollektive tiltak – inkludert sanksjoner eller maktbruk – når Sikkerhetsrådet er lammet.
Colombias president Gustavo Petro har nylig oppfordret til å bruke denne mekanismen for å hindre at et amerikansk veto blokkerer handling mot de pågående angrepene på palestinske sivile.
FOR mener det haster med internasjonalt press for umiddelbar og permanent våpenhvile, slutt på okkupasjonen og en politisk løsning basert på palestinsk selvbestemmelse og like rettigheter. Vi tar avstand fra forsøk på å innføre et kolonialt styresetts i Gaza som vil sementere undertrykkelsen og hindre reell palestinsk frigjøring.
FOR oppfordrer den norske regjeringen til aktivt å støtte innkalling av en ekstraordinær sesjon i Generalforsamlingen under Uniting for Peace og stemme for bindende tiltak som stanser krigen og holder Israelansvarlig for brudd på folkeretten.
No to colonial rule in Gaza! Use the UN General Assembly!
The National Board of FOR supports the use of the UN’s «Uniting for Peace» resolution 377(V) to bypass veto blockades in the Security Council and stop Israel’s warfare in Gaza.
Resolution 377(V) from 1950 gives the General Assembly the authority to convene an emergency session and recommend collective measures – including sanctions or the use of force – when the Security Council is paralyzed.
Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro has recently called for the use of this mechanism to prevent a US veto from blocking action against the ongoing attacks on Palestinian civilians.
FOR believes there is an urgent need for international pressure for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, an end to the occupation, and a political solution based on Palestinian self-determination and equal rights. We oppose attempts to impose a colonial government in Gaza, which would cement the oppression and prevent genuine Palestinian liberation.
FOR calls on the Norwegian government to actively support the convening of a special session of the General Assembly under Uniting for Peace and to vote for binding measures that stop the war and hold Israel accountable for violations of international law.
